Northern Tower, Retford

Northern Tower Retail Park in Retford has enlisted contractors Castlehouse Construction to erect the multi-million-pound Lidl store which had its plans approved last year by Bassetlaw District Council for a 21,000 sq ft location.

Building work is now on track to be completed by mid-September with the new development - which is being overseen by Strawsons Property, a property development group - only a few minutes' walk from Retford town centre.

The Northern Tower development aims to expand the retail choice available in the local area - with incoming retailers to be announced soon.

The new Lidl store will be 22nd store constructed by Castlehouse Construction on behalf of the supermarket.

Phil Dewell, Construction Director, Castlehouse Construction, said: “We are progressing well with the new build Lidl, despite challenging conditions since lockdown and are on track to complete the scheme.

"We are delighted to work with Strawsons Property to deliver another high-quality store for Lidl, marking another milestone in the supermarket’s ambitious expansion plans.”

The location is the former Northern Rubber site, also home to Icon Aerospace’s head office, manufacturing and research and development facility.

Adam Jones of Strawsons Property said: “Lidl is a real coup for the Northern Tower Retail Park and we are delighted that building work has been able to progress at pace despite the complications caused by coronavirus.

“It is great to see our first tenant’s new, purpose-built flagship store taking shape in what is a key part of the transformation from a dilapidated Victorian site into a vibrant part of the local community.

“Lidl is a growing supermarket brand and well known for its quality products at incredible value to shoppers. It will serve the local community well.

“Similarly, interest from other potential tenants remains strong given the location and excellent connectivity of the Northern Tower site and we’re looking forward to announcing new retailers soon once the retail sector fully reopens its doors.”
