Witham St Hughs, Lincolnshire

An award winning community development on the Nottinghamshire - Lincolnshire border

Strawsons Property acquired the site of the former RAF Swinderby in 1996, the site was promoted through the planning system for the development of a new settlement. Planning consent was granted by North Kesteven District Council in 2000. The runways and hangars were sold and a comprehensive and visionary masterplan was created for the remainder of the site.

Sat at the heart of the development is a primary school with associated facilities, created to provide a true sense of place. Around this focal point more than 1,000 homes, a community centre, playing fields, local shops and new public transport links to Newark and Lincoln have been delivered in order to provide a high quality sustainable community.

Outline planning consent for Phase Three 1250 new homes has been obtained and the roads and sewers to serve this new development are due to be completed in December 2020.

Witham St Hughs was awarded Development Scheme of the Year by the East Midlands Royal Town Planning Institute in 2016. It was noted that the scheme provided an excellent example of how housing can be delivered positively with the support of the community to create a vibrant and enjoyable place to live.
